Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary will hold a “Topping Off” Ceremony at its new Lower Gwynedd campus tomorrow, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Friday, September 8, 2023
2:00 p.m.
Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary
 Lower Gwynedd Campus
1325 Sumneytown Pike
 Gwynedd Valley, PA 19437

Reverend Keith J. Chylinski, the Seminary’s Rector, will lead the ceremony. He will be joined by members of the seminary community, plus key representatives from Aegis Property Group, W.S. Cumby Construction, Voith & Mactavish Architects, and O’Donnell & Naccarato Structural Engineers.

The beam selected for the ceremony will be permanently placed above the Humilitas window at the new location of the Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. The window is being refurbished after having been removed from St Martin's Chapel of the existing Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary location in Wynnewood.

Seminarians have affectionately nicknamed the beam that will be hoisted the “Marian Beam.” It has been signed by seminarians and priests of the seminary and bears an inscription from the Miraculous Medal.

Background on Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary
Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary was founded as the Roman Catholic seminary for the Diocese of Philadelphia in 1832, making it the oldest Catholic institution of higher learning in the state of Pennsylvania. As of August 2023, the Seminary has an overall enrollment of 147 seminarians, 72 of which study for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. There are 36 new seminarians enrolled this fall, making it one of the largest incoming classes in several years. Thanks to the prayers and generosity of so many people, the seminary has been able to continue its mission of forming future priests continuously for the last 192 years, both for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, as well as many other dioceses and religious orders throughout the country and around the world.
