Pennacchio's Fight For HCQ Picks Up Steam!

The New Jersey Doctor Patient Alliance, a non-profit association of 350 doctors has lent their voices to New Jersey State Senator Joe Pennacchio’s call for the Administration to immediately rescind its draconian restrictions on doctors and allow them to prescribe hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to their patients.

An alliance of 350 physicians have come out in support of Senator Joe Pennacchio’s efforts to allow doctors in New Jersey to prescribe hydroxychloroquine to treat patients with coronavirus symptoms who have not yet tested positive.(SenateNJ.com)

In a letter signed by Stavros Christoudias, MD FACS, NJDPA’s board chairman, the group applauded Senator Pennacchio’s leadership in this effort and restated his belief in the “efficacy of hydroxychloroquine as a suppressant of the disease.”

The letter states the importance of early treatment to suppress the effects of the virus. “It is imperative to treat with hydroxychloroquine before the disease load increases in the patient, allowing the coronavirus to spread more rapidly to others,” Senator Pennacchio said.

Dr. Christoudias agrees, saying, “HCQ is the best weapon we have to prevent the disease from progressing to its most severe form in the most vulnerable population who are COVID-19 positive.”

“The idea this Administration would make it difficult for the doctors to treat patients at the earliest stages of this viral infection doesn’t make sense and is dangerous. The State must allow doctors to treat patients with the tools they have. Unshackle doctors from these dangerous and arbitrary regulations,” concluded Senator Pennacchio.

Pennacchio To NJ: Unshackle Docs, Release HCQ

As evidence continues to mount supporting the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) against the coronavirus, New Jersey remains behind the curve in its approach to treatment and prevention of COVID-19.

Sen. Pennacchio is calling on the State health department to launch a study comparing coronavirus rates in patients who have been prescribed HCQ for other diseases and people who have not taken the drug. (SenateNJ.com)

Numerous doctors have joined New Jersey State Senator Joe Pennacchio in his call to unshackle them, and allow doctors to treat patients and prescribe HCQ as both a treatment and early preventative against this virus.

“Minimally, the State should have secured HCQ pills and developed a distribution protocol,” said Senator Pennacchio.

Adding to that request, the Senator challenged the State Department of Health to immediately perform a “retrospective study” of people who have routinely taken HCQ as a drug therapy for other diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.  Such a study comparing this population of patients to an equal number of patients who have not been treated with HCQ would prove to be an early treatment protection against COVID-19.

Others such as Dr. Philip DeFina, PhD, a research scientist and former associate professor at New York University School of Medicine, agree with Senator Pennacchio.

“A retrospective analysis of people who are already taking HCQ as part of an ongoing treatment plan for ailments such as auto-immune disorders would be extremely informative data to assess whether or not these same people appear to have a decreased likelihood of contracting COVID-19.  Additionally, some first responders, military personnel and front-line healthcare workers who are already taking lower, prophylactic doses of HCQ would be an excellent source population for a scientifically valid retrospective study. Furthermore, doctor’s nationwide have been prescribing HCQ for compassionate use in patients who have tested positive for COVID-19. There has been some reporting that these outcomes are being tracked for potential studies, and they absolutely should be.”

“Relying on federal ‘guidance’ which seems to have their own issues about accepting HCQ is not enough. The State of New Jersey must immediately take a proactive approach,” concluded Senator Pennacchio.

An Executive Order on Faith and Opportunity 

Yesterday, President Trump signed an Executive Order to ensure that faith-based and community organizations have strong advocates in the White House—and throughout the rest of the Federal Government. The signing coincided with the annual National Day of Prayer at the White House.

The order creates a White House Faith and Opportunity Initiative within the Executive Office of the President. Among its tasks will be to reduce burdens on the free exercise of religion in America, as well as apprise the Administration of any failures of the executive branch to comply with religious liberty protections under law.

“Across the government, we have taken action to defend the religious conscience of doctors, nurses, teachers, students, and groups like the Little Sisters of the Poor,” the President said yesterday. He added that his “Administration has spoken out against religious persecution around the world.”
