Where Their Heroic Bravery, Sacrifice Triumphed

75 years after D Day, this is where one of the greatest triumphs in all of civilizations began. 

Here, on the beaches of Normandy, brave men not only stared down evil, they annihilated it.

We took these photos several years ago when we visited the beaches --  a chilly, damp, overcast day. And there we also walked among the graves of the fallen.

Forever in our hearts!

The Day A President Prayed Openly, Fervently . . .

As we observe the 75th anniversary of a fateful day and as we pause to give thanks for all of our blessings, it's a good time to remember President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Prayer for America and Our Troops delivered on D-Day. This is the same prayer that President Trump read from earlier today.

During a troubled time, in one of our nation's darkest hours, with freedom at stake throughout the world, the President of the United States begged God for his bountiful blessing on our nation and those who defend it so gallantly.

Here, in its entirety is FDR's prayer:

My fellow Americans: Last night, when I spoke with you about the fall of Rome, I knew at that moment that troops of the United States and our allies were crossing the Channel in another and greater operation. It has come to pass with success thus far.

And so, in this poignant hour, I ask you to join with me in prayer:

Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.

Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith.

They will need Thy blessings. Their road will be long and hard. For the enemy is strong. He may hurl back our forces. Success may not come with rushing speed, but we shall return again and again; and we know that by Thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph.

They will be sore tried, by night and by day, without rest-until the victory is won. The darkness will be rent by noise and flame. Men's souls will be shaken with the violences of war.

For these men are lately drawn from the ways of peace. They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest. They fight to liberate. They fight to let justice arise, and tolerance and good will among all Thy people. They yearn but for the end of battle, for their return to the haven of home.

Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom.

And for us at home -- fathers, mothers, children, wives, sisters, and brothers of brave men overseas -- whose thoughts and prayers are ever with them--help us, Almighty God, to rededicate ourselves in renewed faith in Thee in this hour of great sacrifice.

Many people have urged that I call the Nation into a single day of special prayer. But because the road is long and the desire is great, I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips, invoking Thy help to our efforts.

Give us strength, too -- strength in our daily tasks, to redouble the contributions we make in the physical and the material support of our armed forces.

And let our hearts be stout, to wait out the long travail, to bear sorrows that may come, to impart our courage unto our sons wheresoever they may be.

And, O Lord, give us Faith. Give us Faith in Thee; Faith in our sons; Faith in each other; Faith in our united crusade. Let not the keenness of our spirit ever be dulled. Let not the impacts of temporary events, of temporal matters of but fleeting moment let not these deter us in our unconquerable purpose.

With Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. Help us to conquer the apostles of greed and racial arrogancies. Lead us to the saving of our country, and with our sister Nations into a world unity that will spell a sure peace a peace invulnerable to the schemings of unworthy men. And a peace that will let all of men live in freedom, reaping the just rewards of their honest toil.

Thy will be done, Almighty God.

Amen.

A Toast To 'A Very Special Relationship' . . .

“President Trump attended a state banquet on Monday hosted by Queen Elizabeth II, where the two leaders hailed the historic importance of their countries' relationship,” Brett Samuels reports in The Hill. In a toast to the Queen, the President described Her Majesty as a “constant symbol” of our shared values and spoke about the upcoming 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion this Thursday. Queen Elizabeth said that “tonight, we celebrate an alliance that has helped to ensure the safety and prosperity of both our peoples for decades, and which I believe will endure for many years to come.”   Click here to read more.

Yesterday, the President and First Lady were presented special gifts by Queen Elizabeth II during their visit to Buckingham Palace, Natalie Musumeci reports for the New York Post. President Trump received “an abridged first edition of Winston Churchill’s book on World War II.” The First Lady was given “a ‘specially commissioned silver box’ with a ‘handcrafted enamel lid’ that was designed to match the ceiling of Buckingham Palace’s music room.”

“President Trump has given the Duke of Edinburgh a personalised Air Force One jacket as a special gift in honour of the UK state visit. The famous jackets are traditionally worn by US presidents when travelling by air,” Olivia Petter writes in The Independent. “It’s an apt gift for Prince Philip, who became a pilot for the Royal Air Force in 1952.”

“The Border Patrol is seeing an increase in migrants from African countries who are blending in with the large numbers crossing the southern border illegally through Central America,” Fred Lucas reports in The Daily Signal. Agents at the Del Rio, Texas sector “apprehended 116 individuals last week from African countries as they crossed the border from Mexico.”

Yesterday, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) “announced that full funding has been secured to complete the project to elevate the Tamiami Trail. The U.S. Department of Transportation has matched the state of Florida’s $40 million for the Tamiami Trail by awarding an additional $60 million,” the Keys Weekly reports. “I thank President Trump and his administration, including Secretary Elaine Chao, for yet again proving their dedication to the people of Florida as we work to restore our water quality and protect our environment,” Gov. DeSantis said.

Transgender Athletes On Op-Sex Teams? NO!

Critics worry that transgender biological males who identify as women will radically transform women’s sports. Most Americans oppose letting these transgender athletes play on women’s teams, even as House Democrats want to make transgender participation federal law.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that just 28% of American Adults favor allowing transgender students to participate on the sports team of the gender they identify with, letting biological males, for example, play girls’ sports. Fifty-four percent (54%) oppose such a policy, while 18% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

President Gets Full-On Royal Welcome . . .

From Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump kicked off their State Visit to the United Kingdom with a trip to some of the U.K.’s most significant landmarks. The historic visit began with a royal welcome as Marine One landed on the lawn of Buckingham Palace, where Charles, Prince of Wales, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, greeted the President and First Lady. Queen Elizabeth II welcomed President Trump with a handshake at the top of the palace stairs. This week’s trip reflects the special relationship between America and Great Britain, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of D-Day. On June 6, 1944, the Allied forces landed on Omaha Beach in France in the largest land, air, and sea invasion in military history. Thousands of soldiers from both nations lost their lives, but their courage led to victory in World War II—and thus changed the course of history. Commemorating this shared sacrifice, British armed forces played an important role in today’s ceremonies. After the performances of both the American and British national anthems, President Trump accompanied Prince Charles for a traditional inspection of the uniformed Guard of Honor. At Westminster Abbey, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, served as a guide through the church’s historic halls. While inside, the President and First Lady stopped to lay a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior. Set in the central aisle of the Abbey, the tomb represents all those who died in service but have no known grave, much like Arlington National Cemetery’s own Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This evening, Queen Elizabeth concluded the day’s busy schedule of events with an official State Banquet. Honoring the victims of Virginia Beach On Friday afternoon, America mourned the loss of 12 souls after a gunman opened fire in a senseless act of violence at a municipal building in Virginia Beach, Virginia. “Our Nation grieves with those affected by the tragic shooting,” President Trump said in a Proclamation for the victims. “Americans unite in praying for God to comfort the injured and heal the wounded.” In honor of those victims, he also ordered the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff at the White House and other public grounds.
