President Trump has announced that 9/11 hero Welles Crowther will posthumously receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Known as “The Man in the Red Bandana,” Crowther repeatedly ran back into the South Tower on 9/11 to help others escape, saving as many as 18 lives before losing his own. Allison Crowther said her son’s legacy continues to endure nearly 25 years later: “Welles’ light still shines brightly.”

"My own father, who grew up in a segregated South, had to walk around to the back of a restaurant just to order a sandwich because of the color of his skin. "THAT was Jim Crow, and THAT is precisely why it is so offensive to compare that era of legalized discrimination and racial terror to showing a PHOTO ID in a voting booth! "And it's just as offensive when groups and organizations like these manufacture faux hate and racial tension, requiring identification of vote. "It's not oppression. It is not segregation. It is not racism. "It is a basic standard that applies equally to every single American citizen, regardless of what you look like. You need an ID to board a plane. You need an ID to cash a check. "You need an ID to buy alcohol. You need an ID to enter these very federal buildings. And by the way, attaining an ID in this country is an extremely low bar.

"But somehow showing an ID to vote in America is now considered to be Jim Crow 2.0. This is NOT about civil rights. This is about political theater. And the Democrat Party survives on manufacturing grievance.

He served as Chair of Penn State University's Professional Advisory Board for the Corporate Communication major at Penn State Abington and on the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Judicial Selection Commission.

He received his MA degree from Rowan University and his BA from Villanova University. He has been named a Distinguished Alumnus of Rowan's public relations program and received the E. A. "Wally" Richter Leadership Award, the highest honor from the National Association of Bar Executives' Communications Section. He has also been honored by numerous other local, state and national groups.

In his hometown of Camden, Cirucci taught fifth grade at the Ulysses Wiggins Elementary School named for the founder of the Camden NAACP. There he was one of the first teachers in the country to teach African-American history to inner city students. He later served as editor of a local weekly newspaper, as Assistant to the Township Manager of Cherry Hill Township and as Associate Director of Communications at the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Cirucci's passions include all things Italian, politics, the popular culture, books and authors, art, communication, music, theatre, movies, dining and travel.

He and his wife Carole have two grown children and seven grandchildren.
