Italian American Heritage Month: Donna Lopiano

Donna Lopiano

Donna Lopiano is an athlete, sports commentator, consultant; president and founder of Sports Management Resources, a consulting firm that brings the knowledge of experienced, expert former athletics directors to assist scholastic and collegiate athletics departments in solving their growth and development challenges.

She's also the former CEO of the Women’s Sports Foundation (1992-2007), focusing on ensuring athletic departments’ compliance, throughout the nation, with Title IX regulations. Her  athletic career began at age sixteen when she joined  the Connecticut Brakettes, a national championship women’s softball team. 

She participated in 26 national championships in four sports. She's a six-time National Champion, nine-time All-American and three-time ASA Softball MVP. She's also a member of thirteen halls of fame. In 1975 she became the first Director of Women’s Athletics at the University of Texas.
