Monmouth Officials United: Halt Windmills NOW!

Monmouth County New jersey's federal, state & local leaders came together for a press conference at Seven Presidents Park pavilion on Wednesday, April 5th, in support of AR181, which is a bill proposed by Assemblywoman Vicky Flynn & Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger calling for an immediate moratorium on offshore wind projects currently underway just less than 10 miles off our beaches.

Asw. Flynn and Asm. Scharfenberger join in supporting Rep. Chris Smith's amendment to HR1 requiring an independent environmental review and Monmouth County's newly approved resolution announced by Director Tom Arnone for an independent study as well into the short and long term effects.

"Shore town residents are outraged that their voice has been squelched in a coordinated effort of the State and federal government to rush through a so-called environmentally friendly project that will forever change our coastline," stated Asw. Flynn. "We need to hit pause to ensure any offshore activity is safe not only for the whales and dolphins, but also to ensure that offshore activity will not impact our State’s economy."

Support for the resolution to investigate along with the support for assembly bill AR181 is paramount in conveying to our state & federal leaders to halt and properly assess the vast adverse effects these projects could have on our noise levels, fishing industry, sea life and tourism. "Once a definitive cause has been identified, then we are asking for corrective measures to be in place before any resumption of these activities. Everyone wants alternative energy, what they don’t want is alternative energy at any cost," stated Asm Scharfenberger.

"With the early indicators of potential hazard, the whales and dolphins are giving us all the signs to stop. Their deaths should not be in vain," said Asw. Flynn. "What we don't want is people coming to the Jersey Shore for vacation and have to witness a whale's family funeral.”

This is one of Jersey Shore's biggest issues right now and it's becoming clear that "green" energy has more to do with the color of money than it does for the environment.
