David Hogg thinks that foreigners can contribute to US election campaigns. And he asks foreigners to do just that. But they can't. It's Illegal. And he shouldn't make such a request.

But at the same time he alleges that Russia funneled $30 million into the Trump campaign through the NRA. The truth is the NRA allegedly received $2,500 from a few people with Russian addresses over the course of a couple of years. But it would be illegal for the NRA to funnel that money or any foreign money into a US political campaign. 

We feel sorry for David Hogg. He's been through a terrible trauma -- something no young person (or any person, for that matter) should ever have to go through.

But, if he going to step into the political arena (and he has, Big Time) then he ought to know what he's talking about and he ought to get his facts straight.

And one more thing -- he'd be well-advised to stop appearing with the Michael Moore Traveling Circus.

OK, So Here's What Needs To Happen NOW!

We've seen and heard enough over the past week.
Now, the time has come to get real and deal with the problem that faces us.

Yes, there's been enough finger-pointing and there's more than enough blame to go around.
And everybody's culpable here. The Democrats certainly aren't without blame as they had the White House and both houses of Congress and they actually did little to stem the tide of gun crime. Indeed, the assault weapons ban expired in 2004 but once Barack Obama and the Dems gained complete control in 2008, they didn't reinstitute the ban. For the record: the ban was originally signed into law by Bill Clinton but even President Reagan supported it. So, yes -- this is a problem for both parties.
And the FBI is to blame. They obviously fell down on the job.
And the security guards at the high school who chickened out are to blame as well.
And the Broward County sheriff is to blame.
And the social agency people who visited the alleged killer and failed to act on concerns about him are to blame.
And yes, the NRA is to blame just for being so damned intractable.
And the dominant media are to blame for endlessly stirring the pot, sensationalizing the crimes and their culprits and contributing way to much heat and way too little light.

Blame, blame, blame, blame and blame.
That can go on forever. Truth is, government and big special interests failed us -- and failed us all the way around.

OK. Now that we've said that and have gotten that out of our system, what now?
What should we actually do?

No single action will be a panacea.
There's no easy answer here. But steps must be taken.
To any reasonably sane person the following steps would appear to be obvious priorities:
1) The assault weapons should probably be re-eneacted. There's no guarantee it will stem the tide of violence but there's no reason not to put it back into effect, either.
2) Background checks must be toughened.
3) Much tighter controls need to be put on gun ownership by persons with mental disorders. In the case of unstable or questionable persons who already possess guns, the idea of a gun ownership restraining order seems to have merit.
4) Bump stocks must be banned.
5) Hollywood and the popular culture and the media must be held accountable. The glorification of violence must be halted. This ain't no movie and it ain't no video game. This is serious now, understand?
6) The crisis of boys with absent fathers must be addressed. It's nothing less than a time bomb.
7) Social media must come to the table. They share some of the responsibility for this.
8) The FBI must be investigated and the parties responsible for the abrogation of responsibility there must be dismissed.
9) A full investigation of all involved at the  state, county and local level in Florida must also begin and those responsible for the foul ups there must also be dismissed.
10) Respect must be restored for the sanctity of human life and that means that we must have the courage to address the abomination that is abortion on demand. Remember: respect for human life is not a selective matter.

Our nation is facing a very, very, serious situation.
All sides must accept responsibility and all sides must be willing to cede something for the greater good. There can be no progress until and unless that happens.

What To Do About This AWFUL Situation NOW . . .

The superintendent of the Broward County schools says it's hard to identify emotionally troubled or mentally unstable kids.
The superintendent is wrong.
Any teacher will tell you that it's NOT hard to recognize such kids. Even the other kids can recognize such troubles and potentially dangerous individuals.
So, why did he say that? Well, the superintendent was covering himself. That's what superintendents usually do. 
Carole Cirucci was a teacher for 30+ years. Teachers KNOW who these kids are. 
Having acknowledged that, however, we would certainly agree that metal detectors, additional gun legislation, further controls on mentally unstable people owning guns and the use of retired police and/or military in schools must ALL be considered. That's how critical this situation is right now!
And so, let us address a special, direct message to the GOP and the NRA: The two of you need to get together pronto and agree on immediate additional legislative action in the face of this latest atrocity. Maybe some sort of assault weapon control needs to be reimposed. Maybe a longer waiting period is needed. Maybe greater background checks vis-a-vis mentally unbalanced people are necessary.
Whatever it is, the important thing is to do something and do it now!
If the two of you (the NRA and the GOP) cannot get this done and show at least some responsiveness, then this issue is probably gonna cost you Big Time. If you let this slide, we fear you will play into the hands of the radical left and they will eventually impose draconian laws and controls that will surpass anything you can imagine now.
Bottom line: Take wise, prudent, limited action now!

NRA To Address Guns/Crisis On Friday

Here's a statement from the National Rifle Association, the first since the mass shooting in Connecticut:

The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.
Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.
The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.
The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

Honor Palin With Rifle

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was bashed for her pricey wardrobe, but now she's getting a lethal accessory.
The National Rifle Association Foundation will present Sen. John McCain's ill-fated running mate with a military-style assault weapon next week.
The all-white "Alaskan Hunter" - fashionable until Labor Day - is the civilian version of a modified M-4 rifle carried by U.S. troops overseas.
Alaska's feisty Republican governor, who is weighing a potential 2012 presidential bid, will receive the rifle made by Templar Consulting at a May 14 NRA banquet.
It's engraved with Palin's name and adorned with a map of the state on the collapsible stock - made legal after the expiration of the assault weapons ban in 2004. The Big Dipper from the state flag is etched on the magazine well behind a vented barrel guard.
The rifle is chambered in .50-caliber "Beowulf." It's the same caliber used by heavy machine guns, which can take down big game, and in war zones "can disable both motor vehicles and assailants with body armor," according to ammo manufacturer Alexander Arms' Web site. Templar gun designer Bob Reynolds told the NRA's magazine that Palin had stood up for Second Amendment gun rights and "I just wanted to do something to give back."
