The 25th Annual Academy Awards (March 19th, 1953).
There was a time when there were real movie stars -- stars who walked out of their cars right onto the street, up close and personal -- even for Big Events. These stars weren't surrounded by dozens of handlers and wannabes. They didn't come with a retinue of security guards and thuggish hangers-on. Streets were not shut down to accommodate them and their fans were not cordoned off in elevated pens, so far away they could barely see them.
This was Hollywood. They were its inhabitants. They were handsome and beautiful and glamorous and they were right there to see and be seen.
This was how Tinseltown was born!
