Five Big Reasons To Vote For Lynne Abraham

Lynne Abraham is the best candidate for mayor that Philadelphia's had in a long, long time.

Here are five big reasons why she deserves your vote tomorrow:

1) Lynne is a trailblazer who has always been ahead of her time. She was the first woman to serve as District Attorney of Philadelphia and has achieved numerous other firsts in her career.

2) She's the most experienced candidate in the race. She has actually run one of the largest departments in the city, supervised hundreds of employees and taken responsibility for a multi-million dollar annual budget. Her executive credentials are impeccable.

3) She's proven, tested and trusted by the people of Philadelphia. She's won citywide office eight times!

4) Lynne has laid out detailed plans to tackle the problems that the city faces right now, most notably education and the education funding crisis. She's charted the way forward and knows how to get there.

5) Her integrity is unquestioned. She's has not only fought corruption, waste and mismanagement but she has set a constant example herself for how to serve the citizens of the city responsibly and ethically. She doesn't just talk the talk, she walks the walk!

Lynne Abraham's Compelling Story . . . .

.

Lynne Abraham has dedicated her life to serving Philadelphia. Now, Lynne’s running for mayor because she has the vision and experience to transform Philadelphia into America’s Next Great City.

Lynne’s roots are proud and deep Philadelphia roots. The daughter of first-generation Americans, she grew up on the margins of poverty. Her father earned fifteen dollars a week, in good times, working on Dock Street hauling vegetables. Her grandparents were immigrants — a tailor and a butcher from Europe.

Like her parents and grandparents, Lynne was set on becoming a trailblazer. After graduating from Germantown High School, she became the first member of her family to attend college. She went on to earn her law degree from Temple Law School, where she was one of only two women in her class.

Beginning to realize her own American Dream, Lynne Abraham entered public service — working to make it possible for every citizen of Philadelphia to realize their dreams. From job creation to law enforcement, her resume working for our city is unrivaled.

Leading the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority, one of the largest development and job creating agencies, Abraham was responsible for saving University Science Center, the nation’s largest urban technology park; establishing Franklintown; and bringing new jobs, like Gimbel’s Department Store in Market Street East, to the city.

She was the first woman elected to the municipal court, then served as a common pleas court judge. She ran the city’s law office, with a multi-million dollar budget, more than 600 lawyers and staff and three different unions.

Lynne’s most important position was serving as district attorney for five terms — at the time the highest elected office held by a woman in the city. As the city’s top prosecutor, she put away rapists and murders, consoled victims of crime, and worked with the police to make our city safer.

Few other public servants have been elected city-wide eight times, but Lynne Abraham has what it takes to win. She’s running for mayor to fight for our future. Lynne knows how far our city has come—and she has the vision to take us forward.

Why Philly's Mayoral Election Is So Important . . . . .

The great Christine Flowers has written a wonderful column about what's happening in Philly right now and why it's so important. here's an excerpt:
I’ve lived in Delaware County since 1969. I love the place, but I have to say that I call myself a “Philadelphian” because, despite that whole suburban-urban divide, we really rise and fall with the strength of our big mother city.
That’s why I’m very interested in what is happening in the mayor’s race one county over. It’s not just an esoteric thing, where I look and say “hmm, wonder what those crazy folk will do on election day?”
It’s because, even though I can’t vote, I work, eat, breathe and spend most of my day among the “crazy folk,” so what happens in Philadelphia definitely does not stay in Philadelphia.
So, let me give you my “for what it’s worth” two cents about it.
I’m rooting for Lynne Abraham. When I first met her, I still had my . . . . .

Fighting Fearlessly For Children: Lynne Abraham!

When Lynne became Philadelphia DA, child victims had to face a judge, a jury, the public, and testify eye to eye with their attacker.
It wasn’t right.
So Lynne got a constitutional amendment passed allowing children to testify remotely.
Lynne is running for Mayor for the same reason – our children should come first. Jim Kenney and Tony Williams are fighting over public schools versus charters. Lynne disagrees. We have to improve education for all our children.

Debut: Lynne Abraham's New TV Ad Hits The Mark

There’s over two hundred thousand students in Philadelphia. Jim Kenney and Tony Williams are fighting over public schools versus charters. Lynne thinks they’re both wrong … it’s making sure they all get a good education.

Lynne Abraham Unveils 'Safe City' Plan

Here is a very special message from the Lynne Abraham campaign:

Earlier today, Lynne released her plan for a safer Philadelphia. As a District Attorney for 19 years, no one understands how to improve public safety in our city better than Lynne. And this plan will keep all of our kids safe and protect every neighborhood. Can we count on you to sign the petition and demonstrate your support for Lynne’s plan?

Lynne is ready to lead on Day One, and she is the only candidate who has a career in criminal justice and law enforcement. As District Attorney, Lynne cracked down on those who preyed on our children regardless of power or position of influence. She also helped pass a constitutional amendment protecting our kids from having to face eye-to-eye with their attackers in court.

And as Mayor, Lynne will do the same thing she has always done – put our children first. That’s why she put forward a plan to establish an Office for Family Violence that will protect women and children who are subject to poverty, abuse, and domestic violence. Click here to read the plan and sign the petition to support Lynne’s plan!

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Here's How You Can Help Elect Lynne Abraham

Here's a special message from the Lynne Abraham campaign:

Earlier this week, Patrick Kerkstra wrote an article in Philadelphia Magazine calling this race a three-way “tossup.” With just 27 days until the election, we need your help to make sure our campaign takes off and wins this race. Will you donate $150, $250, or $500 to give us the resources we need to spread our message to every voter?

As District Attorney for 19 years and head of Philadelphia’s Redevelopment Authority, Lynne is the only candidate who has the executive experience to lead on day one. And we know that she can win this election.

But winning isn’t going to be easy. The next few weeks are going to be critical and we need an extra boost to make sure we reach every voter before Election Day. Can we count on you to give this campaign a boost by donating today? Click the link below to donate today: http://LynneAbraham.com/donate

Our opponents, beholden to the special interests, are trying to buy this election. They are using SuperPACs to spend millions of dollars on the airwaves, while Lynne is campaigning to take on business as usual. That’s why we need your grassroots support to help us spread our message to every voter. Click here now to donate!

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Abraham, Ageism And Those Ever-Pesky Pundits

Our dear friend Christine Flowers has written a wonderful column in the Philadelphia Daily News about age and ageism in America with thoughts about the age of politicians and public servants and the current Philadelphia mayoral race. Here's an excerpt:

"When [Lynne] Abraham fell at the podium and was unconscious for a few moments, some pundits wrote her political eulogy before she had the chance to say, 'The tough cookie has not yet crumbled.' The swiftness with which this became received wisdom, as in 'she's cooked,' was an example of how cynical the pundits have become about what truly matters in the makeup of a candidate."

How Lynne Abraham Will Bring Jobs To Philly

Here is a very special message from Lynne Abraham:

Right now, middle class families are struggling because there aren’t enough good-paying jobs in Philadelphia. Income inequality is growing and we need real solutions to address it. That’s why, earlier this afternoon, I released my jobs plan to create more jobs and better paying jobs in our city. Will you click here and sign my petition to show your support for my plan?

I am the only candidate with a real and specific plan to bring more and better paying jobs to Philadelphia. My plan has real solutions to upgrade our education and job training, revive key commercial corridors, build world-class infrastructure, and ensure a safe, livable city so we bring good-paying jobs to Philadelphia.

I hope you will read my plan and sign my petition to bring middle class jobs to our city by clicking the link below: http://LynneAbraham.com/JobsPlan.

There is nothing more important to our city’s success than creating new good-paying jobs. That’s why my plan will reform City Hall and our tax system to make it easier for startups and small business to come to Philadelphia and to grow in Philadelphia. Click here to read my entire jobs plan and sign my petition to show your support for my plan.

I am the only candidate who has the executive experience to lead on day one. As the District Attorney for 19 years and the head of the Redevelopment Authority, I know how to create jobs.

But I cannot implement this jobs plan without your support. Click the link below to sign my petition and your signature will send a powerful message: http://LynneAbraham.com/JobsPlan

Abraham Unveils Ethics Reform Plan

Here is a special message from the Lynne Abraham campaign:

Earlier this morning, Lynne stood forcefully on the steps of City Hall and announced her ground-breaking ethics reform plan to end business as usual in Philadelphia. And we are asking you to sign a petition showing your support for Lynne’s plan by clicking the link below: www.LynneAbraham.com/EthicsReformPetition

Lynne’s plan goes further than any other reforms proposed by opponents in the race.  It offers specific solutions to get rid of “Big Money” politics, to demand transparency in all campaign donations and spending, and to finally put an end to entrenched special interests’ ability to pay-to-play.

As Lynne said, “We have an opportunity for change.  I’m not afraid to take on business as usual and make the tough choices and hard decisions, and, if necessary, break some china along the way to put our government back on the side of everyday people.”

If we want to improve our schools, keep our streets safe, and create jobs in Philadelphia, we need to reform our government so it serves all Philadelphians. And Lynne is the only candidate ready to get the job done on day one.

Thank you,
- Team Lynne

Why Lynne Abraham Remains So Compelling

Lynne Abraham is the most authentic candidate in the current Philadelphia mayoral race.
She's the most natural, the most three-dimensional, the brightest and most aware candidate to come along in a very long time.
She'd make a great mayor because she not only loves Philadelphia but she understands the city in a way nobody else can. And, she's a fascinating person: culturally literate, curious, funny, human and personable.
Michael Cavacini recently interviewed Lynne for his blog.
Here's a snippet of that excellent interview about Lynne and her vision for Philadelphia:

In all of your years of public service, what’s been the toughest challenge you’ve ever faced? The toughest challenge you have to face as a public servant is to make sure every day of your life you wake up renewed to do even more than you did the day before. There’s no such thing as the end of a good day and the beginning of a mediocre day. Every day has to be better than the last one. You have to figure out new ways, different ways you can help people and serve the public the way they want to be served. This is done through honest, faithful work. Being interested more in others than you are in yourself, and true service every step of the way.In my judgement, you should never get so full of yourself that you think you’re something special or that this job came from the gods on high. The people elected you to office. You are their public servant. Don’t get too big for your station and think that this is something you’re entitled to. We have seen the arrogance of power, as long as I’ve been around, where people think they are here forever. Where they think they are the most important person on Earth. They’re going to be there as long as you are, so you’ve got to pay attention to them. It’s a lack of humility and an overwhelming sense of hubris and entitlement that is so breathtaking that it’s disgraceful. That’s the biggest thing. To let people know that I’m a servant. That may be something that you saw when I was in your line. I didn’t make demands or throw my weight around. I’m just a customer. I’m a servant. We’re working to serve the public, you and I. You in one way. I in another. But we’re all in the same boat. We’re trying to make sure that the experience for those we serve is beneficial and helpful.

Lynne Abraham Unveils Education Plan

A special message from the Lynne Abraham campaign:

Did you see the news? Earlier this morning Lynne released her Education Plan to rescue our schools. Lynne’s plan proposes to make sure Philadelphia gets its fair share of education dollars, to honor teacher’s contacts but hold them accountable, and to provide solutions on far reaching issues such as school safety, infrastructure, universal pre-k education, class size, and higher education opportunities. At the end of the day, this is what is best for our kids. That’s why we are calling on you to click here and sign the petition showing your support for Lynne’s plan!

This is not only a plan for funding but for improving our schools. That is why Lynne supports Superintendent William Hite’s proposal to reorganize Philadelphia’s schools into four networks. Because it will improve the quality of our children’s education.

And by honoring our teacher’s contracts but holding them accountable, we will improve our schools and give our kids a greater chance to succeed.

Here is a very special message from the Lynne Abraham for Mayor campaign:

Lynne Abraham's Added Mayoral Advantage

We've known Lynne Abraham for many, many years and have the highest regard for her.
When it comes to who might be the next Mayor of Philadelphia, Lynne's really the ONLY person for the job.
She's the most experienced, the most dedicated, the most authentic public servant we know.
But here's one of the often overlooked keys to her strength: She's one of the most worldly public figures you will ever meet. She's incredibly aware, always people-oriented and  appealingly three-dimensional.
She’s traveled all over the world and is knowledgeable about so many things — art, music, literature, sports, movies, theater.
Anyone can converse easily with her about any of these topics and more, because Lynne understands that everything is related to everything else. She's also comfortable in every setting and every section of the city -- in every neighborhood -- where she is almostly instantly recognized and welcomed. No one knows the city better and no one loves it more.
Beyond all that, she’s fully engaged all the time. She has an admirable zest for living and remains curious about many things.
Bottom line: She'd make an incredible mayor -- someone who would be simpatico with the city and its citizens.

Why This Is Lynne Abraham's Moment

Lynne Abraham's whole life has been about public service, in the best way possible.
And through it all, never has there been a scintilla of evidence that would in any way blemish her record of service. That’s practically unprecedented in Philadelphia.
Her reputation for integrity and fearless service to the city and its residents is impeccable.
At every term — as a trailblazing woman — Lynne Abraham has had to work harder and hold herself to a higher standard to succeed. And she understood that. She didn’t complain about it. She simply did it.
When she was the first woman Municipal Court judge, it wasn’t enough for her to be above reproach — she had to be the veritable definition of the term. Likewise when she ascended to the Common Pleas court bench.
When she was the first woman DA, she couldn’t simply be tough; she had to be tougher than tough.
All along she had to maintain a certain demeanor because she really had no choice. She was “it” and all eyes were on her. And always, she rose to the challenge -- earning and retaining the trust of the people again and again.
Though she's always been authentic, now that she's running for mayor and now that, as a woman, she's reaping some (not all, but some) of the changes and advances that she helped to create, she can open up more. She can show the public a softer side; she can be more emotional, more caring (dare we say kindler, gentler) without compromising any of the rest.
And that's exactly what Lynne Abraham is doing.
It's a wonderful time for her and she's enjoying it.
Because, now more than ever,  she has nothing to hide (her life of public service is an open book) and nothing to lose.
It’s the other candidates (and their cohorts) who have to be more circumspect — the deceivers, the connivers, the inauthentic ones — the ones who are owned by others.
Lynne Abraham is who she is. Nobody owns her. She doesn't need to be packaged or programmed or branded. She is the brand.
And now, because she's been true to herself and her principles and true to Philadelphians, this really is her moment.
Count on it: She'll be nobody's mayor but yours!

Abraham Holds Big Lead In Philly Mayor's Race

Lynne Abraham holds a commanding lead in the race to become Philadelphia's next mayor according to a poll just released by the widely-respected Mellman Group.
And, in addition to her double-digit lead Abraham has "a substantial image advantage" over her opponents.
Here's are some of the highlights of the poll:
  • Abraham's lead is a significant 16% over each of her nearest opponents in the all-important Democrat primary.
  • Abraham has more than twice the support of either of her nearest opponents.
  • Lynne Abraham leads across all major groups.
  • Abraham also leads across all sections of the city.
  • Her strength is grounded in the strong image that people have of her and the high degree of trust they place in her. Her favorable ratings are more than 20% higher than those of each of her nearest opponents.
  • Large majorities of voters say Abraham is tough on crime (80%), is a strong leader (69%), has the integrity we need (66%) and has the experience to be mayor (64%).
Lynne Abraham is well-positioned going into this race. But her opponents are backed by powerful vested-interests and they are already spending big bucks to defeat her. They will spend more. In fact, it's a good bet that they will stop at nothing to derail her campaign and bring her down.

That's why it's important for all of us -- all of us who care about Philadelphia and its future -- to get behind Lynne Abraham now.

Don't delay! Click here now to become part of the Lynne Abraham campaign!
