Live Blogging The Oscars - Part Five; The Show Begins

The opening Oscar number (we hear) will be fifteen minutes long.

"And the quest to make Tommy Lee Jones laugh begins now."

And so far the number hasn't even started. Will there even be one.

"The effort to make Argo was so top secret that the film's director was not known to the Academy."

Seth MacFarlane seems to be struggling so far. This is a very tough gig.

"Jennifer Lawrence says it doesn't matter whether she wins or loses, it's just an honor that Meryl Streep wasn't nominated."

Okay, we're merely a few minutes into the show and already the gay connection is here with the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles.

Great to see Channing and Charlize dancing.

But so far this opening sequence is too patchy -- both literally and figuratively as our picture keeps breaking up into digital squares. We'll blame that (in part) on Comcast.

We're afraid the opening sequence is going nowhere.
