Assemblyman: Use Fed $$$ For Property Tax Relief!

New Jersey state Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger (R-Monmouth) is drafting a resolution calling on the Governor to reconsider a coming proposal that would seek to divert $40 million in CARES Act funds to illegal immigrants and instead use the funds to offer property tax relief to New Jersey’s struggling homeowners:

“Talks of the Governor nearing a proposal to provide $40 million in stimulus payments to illegal immigrants is an affront to every taxpayer struggling across the state,” says Scharfenberger. “I am calling on the Governor to instead use the $40 million and put it into direct property tax relief for our residents.”

Subsequent to calling on the Governor to redirect the millions in CARES Act funds to provide property tax relief, the Assemblyman also believes financial resources need to be allocated to rental assistance programs for when the eventual occurs and the State’s moratorium on evictions is lifted leaving thousands being confront with the possibility of becoming homeless:

“Relieving enormous tax burdens and preventing the looming eviction disaster on the horizon for many New Jersyans should be priority-one for any governor,” Scharfenberger continued. “We cannot continue to reward those who have broken our immigration laws at the expense of our citizenry any longer.”
