Joisey After Speeders!

Be forewarned: Joisey State Police are on a speeding ticket frenzy to raise $$$$$ for the state.
Also, fines will be raised for a wide variety of nominal offenses to replenish the state coffers since the tax 'n spend gang in Trenton still hasn't learned to go on a fiscal diet.
So, poor commuting suckers will foot the bill. That means YOU!
Yes, New Jersey will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy.
The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. One million dollars will go to pay state troopers over-time. There will be 50 state troopers on duty at all times patrolling the 9 main intersections and highways as follows:
I-295 North and South,
I-95 Jersey Turnpike North and South
I-80 East and West
I-287 North and South
I-78 East and West
I-195 East and West
I-280 East and West
Route 130 - North and South
Garden State Parkway - North and South
5 MPH above the limit can justify a ticket and every state trooper is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 to 20 minutes.
They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and are bringing in all of their part-timers on full time. If you work in NJ, NY DE or CT, you will probably be on one> of these highways. So, please be on guard and drive safely.
Starting August 15 the price of a violation to show your driver's license, registration or insurance card at the time you are stopped will increase from $44.00 to $173.00. (Keep these documents in your car)
The fine for not having all three documents is $519.00!
The fine for hand-held cell phone use while driving will be going up to $180.00.
You can thank our wacky Governor and the State Legislature for this!

What sounds like to me, actually, is that people who break the law by speeding, not commuters who drive at a lawful speed, will foot the bill.

Oooo, Dan. Tell us the one about the Nigerian prince who wants us to help him get his family's money out of the country.

So you didn't actually hear it "confirmed" by 101.5, but you know a good authority who did? Don't be a numbnuts, Dan.

This is from a Pennsylvania State Police press release in April (you can find it here: http://www.psp.state.pa.us/psp/cwp/view.asp?A=11&Q=176942 )

Speed Enforcement E-Mail A Hoax - April 17, 2008

The Pennsylvania State Police would like to advise citizens that an e-mail circulating in Pennsylvania that warns of a “speeding ticket frenzy” involving State Police is a hoax.

The misinformation in this e-mail is an urban legend that originated in New Jersey in May 2005. Since then, the hoax has targeted police in several other states.

Official Statement: "Speeding Ticket Frenzy" is a Hoax

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

February 2, 2007

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is announcing that a widely distributed e-mail message that describes a "30-day speeding ticket frenzy" to be conducted by the MSP is completely false. There is no such effort underway at this time or any time to generate revenue through the issuance of traffic citations, and readers should regard the warning as nothing more than an urban legend.

This email has been circulating in cyberspace for over a year. Similar versions have appeared in several other states including New Jersey, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Oklahoma.

Versions of the e-mail forwarded to State Police by citizens claim that massive speed enforcement detail will pay the costs of Trooper’s overtime and target certain highways and intersections.

The Department suggests that anyone who receives such an e-mail to simply delete it. Don’t become part of the hoax by forwarding the message to others. It is simply not true.

The State Police routinely engage in speed enforcement efforts as part of our highway safety programs. The Department never issues traffic citations as a way of raising funds for the state.

First, I'm not surprised that authorities are denying this. What would you expect them to do?
Second, I'm not talking about the other states. I'm talkin bout Joisey - a state that I know and am intimately familiar with. The state is in deep deficit and this is a quick and easy way to raise dough.
Third, the person who forwarded this to me is a VERY reliable source - a lifelong Joiseyite with deep coinnections.
Hey, if you don't wanna believe it, don't believe it.
But don't say I didn't warn you.
BTW: THIS is surely a bald faced lie: "The Department never issues traffic citations as a way of raising funds for the state."
If you believe that, I got a bridge I wanna sell you.
