This spring, the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s popular Art After 5 music series, brings new faces and old favorites to Friday nights in the Great Stair Hall from 5:45 to 8:45 p.m. The season presents Latin American jazz, poetry, percussion, and piano performances, along with opera theater, drag cabaret, and Portuguese fado.
APRIL
April 19: La Dolce Vita
Opera meets cabaret in performances from the innovative Center City Opera Theater. Sharing the bill is DisCanto, a group of conservatory-trained musicians who reinterpret traditional southern Italian songs.
April 26: Sofia Tosello
Tosello’s Latin American–flavored jazz combines the passion of tango with the sensuality of Afro-Peruvian and creole music.
MAY
May 3: Martha Graham Cracker The queen of Philadelphia drag cabaret returns with her signature cultural commentary and witty banter, accompanied by Victor Fiorillo.
May 10: Center City Jazz Festival Kickoff Featuring Venissa Santi
Vocal jazz artist Venissa Santi performs songs from her album “BigStuff” Afro-Cuban Holiday, accompanied by an ensemble and Grammy Award–nominee Jane Bunnett.
May 17: The PRISM Quartet
Composer and electric guitarist Nick Didkovsky and sonic alchemist Thomas Dimuzio perform Ice Cream Time, an evening-length work that explores the boundaries between human- and software-generated music. This program is presented in conjunction with PRISM Quartet, Inc.
May 24: An Evening of Fado
“Fadista” NathaliePires performs the melancholy, guitar-based traditional songs of Portugal. This program is supported by the Philadelphia Portuguese Heritage Commission.
May 31: Lee Smith
Veteran R& B and jazz bassist Lee Smith performs compositions from his debut album, Sittin’ on a Secret, with an all-star ensemble.
JUNE
June 7: The Bearded Ladies Cabaret: Marlene and the Machine
The Bearded Ladies Cabaret fuses cabaret and theater; in Marlene and the Machine they combine the music of Marlene Dietrich and Lotte Lenya with the visual language of German Expressionism.
June 14: Philadelphia Dance Party with Lyrispect
Nina “Lyrispect” Ball, an award-winning artist, poet, and producer, presents a lively and diverse lineup of performers for an evening of music and poetry.
June 21: Arturo Stable
Cuban master percussionist and composer Arturo Stable presents original jazz compositions inspired by the Museum’s collection.
June 28: Peter Beets
A Dutch pianist known for his impeccable technique and incisive sense of swing, Beets has played with Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Elvin Jones, John Clayton, and Dee Dee Bridgewater, among others.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is among the largest museums in the United States, with a collection of more than 227,000 works of art and more than 200 galleries presenting painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, decorative arts, textiles, and architectural settings from Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the United States. Its facilities include its landmark main building on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the Perelman Building on nearby Pennsylvania Avenue, the Rodin Museum on the 2200 block of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and two 18th-century houses in Fairmount Park, Mount Pleasant and Cedar Grove. The Museum offers a wide variety of activities for public audiences, including special exhibitions, programs for children and families, lectures, concerts, and films.
