Archbishop In Outreach To Special Ed Students

Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez will visit Saint Katherine School (SKS) in Wynnewood (Montgomery County). He will be greeted by Ms. Lauren Bell, M.S., Principal; Sister Mary Thoma, R.S.M., Life Skills/Special Education Teacher; Ms. Blake Campbell, Multiple Disability Room Teacher; and SKS students. 

Dr. Danielle Heeney, Director of Special Education for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, will also be present. Dr. Heeney assumed her new position in early April 2021 and will work directly with the three Archdiocesan Schools of Special Education, which include SKSOur Lady of Confidence School, and Saint Lucy School for Children with Visual Impairments. In addition, she will coordinate special education services in Archdiocesan high schools throughout the five-county region.

Background Information on Saint Katherine School: 

Saint Katherine School (SKS) is one of the three Archdiocesan schools of special education. SKS serves students ages 4 ½ to 21 years old, with an I.Q. below 70. The main campus, located in Wynnewood, offers a program for students with multiple impairments, as well as a life skills program, which includes functional academics. The high school program, located in Radnor at Archbishop John Carroll High School, offers a life skills program including functional academics and vocational training. All teachers are highly qualified and continue to attend workshops and conferences that broaden and enrich their teaching techniques. Each classroom has a teacher assistant on a daily basis.  SKS has part-time speech, occupational, and physical therapists.
