Christie Formally Nominates High Court Justice

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie today formally filed his nomination of Superior Court Assignment Judge Faustino J. Fernandez-Vina to a seat on the state’s highest court. First nominated by Governor James McGreevey in 2004, Judge Fernandez-Vina currently serves as Superior Court Assignment Judge in Camden County. The Governor first introduced Judge Fernandez-Vina and made known his intention to nominate him on August 12, 2013.

Also today, Governor Christie filed the formal nomination of Gurbir Grewal to be the next Bergen County Prosecutor. The Governor announced his intention to nominate the federal prosecutor to the position earlier this month. Since 2010, Grewal has worked at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Newark as the Deputy Chief of the Economic Crimes Unit and Computer Hacking and IP Crimes Unit, and previously worked at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York as an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the Business and Securities Fraud Unit.

The Governor’s nominations are subject to the advice and consent of the State Senate, and the Governor looks forward to the prompt scheduling of hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
